On these powerful days in December, karmic results are considered to be increased many millions of times. The following days provide good opportunities for us to accumulate merit, purify negativities and pray for wellness and success.

 

Gen Namgyel-la has advised some practices for the students and some practices that can be sponsored by the students, so that there is a range of advice for different minds. The students themselves need to decide what is appropriate and what they rejoice in.

Lunar Eclipse in May

Date | May 26, 2021

Shakyamuni Buddha's birth, enlightenment and parinirvana are celebrated on Saka Dawa. May 26 is the most important holy day of the special month 'Saka Dawa' for Tibetan Buddhism. On this day, karmic results - good and bad - are considered to be multiplied by millions. 

 

On the same day of May 26, there is a lunar eclipse which is considered highly auspicious, with karmic results similarly multiplied.

The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma

 

Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teachings were at Sarnath on the Four Noble Truths 2,500 years ago, resulting in great benefit for countless sentient beings. All karma - good and bad - accumulated on the anniversary of this sacred day are considered to be multiplied by millions.

Special group practice on the day of the First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma

We are following Venerable Namgyel's advice to have a group practice on this special day:

 

- Recite Heart Sutra 108 times

- Recite Shakyamuni Buddha mantra 108 times 

- Recite King of Prayers

 

As a group the power is multiplied and it's easier to complete the recitations as we can count the total number of recitations in relation to the number of participants. So we need more people participating to make it feasible and powerful. Details:

‘Buddha Shakyamuni's Descent from the Heaven of Thirty-three' after three months giving teachings to Buddha's mother, who had been reborn in Indra's heaven, in order to repay her kindness and to benefit the gods. This day signifies Buddha’s return to the human realm and continuously benefiting us, extremely important for Buddhists. 

 

Any acts of positive and negative karma are considered to be multiplied by millions.

Choeding Rinpoche's Birthday

Date | December 21, 2021

 

Choeding Rinpoche is the reincarnation of Geshe Ben Kungyal. In one of the famous stories in the Lam Rim, he was a thief but later became a great lojong practitioner, and finally became enlightened. Choeding Rinpoche is a very compassionate Guru of Gen Namgyel-la. This is a special day for us to make connections and show appreciation to our lineage.

Christmas

Christmas Eve and Holy Jesus’s birthday, these are the important dates for many people to gather and celebrate. It is a great opportunity to cultivate our compassion for our families and friends, with a peaceful mind.

Lama Tsongkhapa Day

Lama Tsongkhapa Day (Tibetan calendar: the 25th of the 10th month)

Date | December 29, 2021

 

Anniversary of the parinirvana of the great Lama Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Je Tsongkhapa refined the adulterating Buddhist practice in Tibet. He is the author of Lam Rim Chenmo — The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment — and other profound texts. The Lam Rim is a very important book in Buddhist history; also, it’s the framework that Venerable Namgyel’s teachings are based upon.

 

Karmic results both good and bad accumulated on this day are considered to be multiplied by millions.

New Year

This is an important date to set our motivation for the year, continue our aspirations with diligence and joy.

- Recite Tara Praises and Mantra for the New Year and to bring wisdom to all world leaders as well as all sentient beings.

Losar & Chotrul Duchen (Tibetan calendar: the 1st to 15th of the 1st month)

Date | March 3-17, 2022

 

Losar (Tibetan New Year), followed by the The Fifteen Days of Miracles, is a special and auspicious time. It marks how Guru Shakyamuni Buddha showed his miraculous powers, inspiring people to have faith. It culminates on the full moon, the fifteenth day of the Tibetan lunar calendar, also know as Chotrul Duchen.

 

During these fifteen days (3-17 March 2022) all karmic results, good and bad, are considered to be multiplied by millions.

- 35 Buddhas with prostrations

- Clean the house, refresh the altar…..keep the good heart all day!

- Offer lights

- Recite "King of Prayers"
