Letter from a student

Beloved GenLa,

Although I have a full schedule at hand, my heart is not allowing me to pick it up before writing to you.

More or less than 20 years ago, I was sitting in the chai shop of Dharamkot square. During that time, my mind was heavy for a long period of time. Trying to make sense of the transition of being in India with a Western mind frame, trying to figure out how to navigate my life in order to be true to my heart’s calling, a life in Dharma.

Then all the sudden, a Western looking Tibetan monk approached the place. He emanated a lightness, a genuine smiling face, at any moment ready to express itself into a joke. Like the joke was already waiting before the opportunity arose. And yes, his speech made his audience laugh. His lightness infectiously spread out towards other. In that moment, my mind was too heavy to fully tune into that light energy, but I remember clearly the response in my heart “How beautiful to be able to be in such a state of being, sharing it spontaneously with others and making this world a better place”. After that moment, a few more times I witnessed you from a distance, and your being was always as such.

I do not recall ever having met you in the shop. If we have, then I regret not to remember that moment because it must have been a precious moment to remember.

But anyhow, causes and conditions made it happen that we came into contact again.

I would like to express my heart felt gratitude for the positive supportive effect you have had/are having in my life. Having been in indirect and direct contact with you, always infused my being with a calm, grounding, inspirational energy, a fresh drive to keep going, that in essence all is well and the circumstantial will pass.

Thank you GenLa, for being in this world, for all the contributions you have brought/are bringing into this world for the experienced betterment of many.

May you always find joy in being a lighthouse to all those who are ready to perceive it. May this joy accompany you in all lives to come and provide you the needed energy to fulfil all of your aspirations.

With heartfelt gratitude

Kunsang Lhamo
